Biography

Jamieson Trotter is a serious new presence in the Los Angeles music scene. He started piano lessons at age four after watching his very accomplished father, Terry, incessantly practice. ‘Jamo’ is actually a third generation pianist, so one can literally say, it’s in his blood. He attended the California Institute of the Arts and then headed for ‘the streets’ where he played with bands of every musical style. Jamo’s original compositions combine elements from jazz, classical and ethnic music that showcase melody, harmony, and rhythm, yet offer an interpretive jazz conception. Jamieson may be heard on some of his more intense solos with vocalizations similar to Monk, Peterson, Garner, or Jarrett.

On his upcoming Bravura album, Jamieson plays with dad Terry on five of the cuts! Dad’s star studded career includes playing with the likes of Les Brown, Chet Baker, Joe Pass, Lena Horne and he continues to play with Larry Carlton. He’s recorded with Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Natalie Cole, and Celine Dion to name a few. Son and father playing together allows for a new freedom of interplay between the two pianos. Their two styles, while somewhat similar yet still different, offer a high degree of unique improvisation. Yet unlike other albums by two pianists, they compliment each other rather than compete, and they never allow the harmonic content to become too thick. On “Christmas Time is Here”, Jamo’s Christmas gift to you, he’s playing a Wurlitzer electric piano while dad plays the Steinway grand. In their house, the apple didn’t fall very far from the tree, and you’ll get to enjoy some of both apple and tree together on Jamieson’s new album!
